Over the last ten years (it's 2004 now), the best investment my wife and I have made is our house. It's almost the best financial investment, but when you consider total return, which includes the trade ups we've done, the house has been wonderful.

In our last house (Old Stone, more for my reference than yours), we did a number of things, finished the basement, ripped out carpet and tiled a bathroom floor, replaced the decking, changed lancscaping, removed trees, move the grass line, etc. A whole lot of work which payed off nicely in family enjoyment, learning experiences, and financial value increase in the house. I didn't document those projects very well, but I'm starting with the new Jamison house.

Projects

The Barn Project - Working toward's Tia's dream of horses, we contracted to have a barn built.
Windows - The story of our window replacement project.
Fence - Building a split rail fence around the West acre.
Wiring for ethernet around the house.
Speakers around the house - A request from Tia.
Replacing the double oven and range
Patching our stucco
Patching the asphalt driveway
Cement joint patching - to eliminate the dust and dirt getting caught in there.
Weatherstripping
Misc wiring - adding outlets, fixtures, switching, etc.
Moving french doors - From the nook to the kids room
Replacing the french doors in the nook with a slider
Replacing Deck Boards - The old boards are old and splintery, etc.
Shelving in the basement - We need somewhere to put our junk
Finishing the basement - At least adding a room. Getting ambitious on my part.
