MySQL

This is my journey into the world of MySQL.

I learned a bit about MySQL earlier this year (2001) when I was sent a MySQL book by a publisher to review. It was a mistake as I am a SQL Server (Microsoft) person by trade, but I decided to take a look anyway. It was interesting, but at the time there were no transactions or stored procedures, so I kind of dismissed MySQL as a "toy" database, not really worth learning.

Well some time passed and I was a little distracted one day at work, so I downloaded MySQL with the intention of giving it a try. After all, tons of free hosting places on the Internet use MySQL under Apache and Linux. Of course, while if was downloading, I got some work to do, so I ended up unpacking and installing the program, but never starting the server or making it work.

A few weeks later I had some more time and decided to do some basic work. I had left my MySQL book at home, so I did a quick search on Google. Thus begins my work with MySQL.

I am a MySQL novice, though someone with ten years + of SQL experience, almost exclusively with SQL Server, a little dBAse/FoxPro/etc., a little Access, and a little Oracle. If you find problems, please drop me an email.
