The Infinite Loop by Michael Malone. I have
always loved Apple as a company and a computer. As I made the
change to Unix and then PCs, I still kept a love for Apple and it was
with regret a few years back that I sold my Apple II. With a few more
articles and some begging from my wife, I my get an iMac soon.
This is a portrait of Apple as it grew from Woz and Jobs through the
iMac. I learned a great deal about the history of the company and it
changed the way I viewed the company. The first 3/4 were great reading
with a little dragging near the end as Jobs and Woz were gone from the
company. Kind of mirrors the way the company prospered. I would love an
update of this book in 4-5 years with a new section for the Job Years
Part 2. Highly Recommended

Nov 1999 |
The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deever. Not as good as the hype
suggested, but quick and easy reading. If you liked Silence of the Lambs
you will like this. |

Dec 1999 |
The Coffin Dancer by Jeffery Deever. Book 2 of the Lincoln Rhyme series. Entertaining. A few good
twists, but not as good as I had hoped. It gets a little far-fetched near the
end and I had difficulty staying immersed in the story. |

01-01-00 by Pineiro. It was enjoyable last year,
but post Y2K, this may have lost some of it's excitement. It was
enjoyable and the second by this author I read. Worth a read if you want
a hi-tech Ludlum like thriller. Much shorter than a Ludlum, but still a
nice rainy day spy thriller. |

The Winner by David Balducci. Picked it up and put
it down. It was slow to start. After my wife read it and enjoyed it, I
went back and gave it another chance. It was worth it and I enjoyed this
book about a lottery fix with a thriller in the second half. |

Mar 1999 |
Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy. One of the best yet. I
wondered if there would be more books starring John Clark and this
answered my question. I read this while I was moving to Colorado and get
to within 15 pages of the end and had to return it to the library. Still
haven't finished it, but loved the book. I will re-read this one day. |

Breakthrough by Pineiro. Another good spy thriller.
Not as good as Exposure but still a good read. |

Absolute Power by David Balducci. I liked this
movie, but the book was better. I read the book later and while I
pictured Eastwood, I really enjoyed the writing here. It made me look
for more Balduccis. |

Startswarm by Jerry
Pournelle. I have read Jerry's column in Byte for years and always
wondered about his science fiction, so I picked this up. It was slow to
start and I struggled to get through the story. It's not really my style
of book, but as I got halfway through I really started to enjoy this
one. |
