About Delaney

2006

Still Duke, but his new 3rd grade teacher calls him "Jonesey". He seems to like that, especially after hearing Dad's friends call him the same thing.

A good year in the country, Delaney learned to drive the ATV and riding mower and has adapted well. Espeically since he has one great friend. He's an interesting kid, and really enjoys schooling everyone on the XBOX.

Duke Joe - 2004

He really has been more of a GI Joe kid for over a year. He loves the Joes, wants to be one, talks about being a SEAL, though he still loves trains. As witnessed on the recent Durango trip with his Mom

He's growing up, played baseball this spring. Struggled with the hitting coach pitched balls, and catching. At the end he got into it and would chase balls from third, something he didn't do at the beginning. Hitting got better well.

But it paled compared to roller hockey. After watching Kyle play hockey at the same time, he wanted to do hockey in the summer. Did ok, learned to skate and hit. Now he's starting fall hockey in September, we're talking basketball in the winter, hockey in the sprint and summer baseball.

Warms my heart to have a sports kid.

The Truck and Train Kid

2003

It's been an interesting year so far (It's May). Delaney is a huge GI Joe kid and is becoming smarter all the time. He's struggled slightly in pre-school, trying to get hand-eye coordination down. Maybe that's why he doesn't like art. In fact his "bad" days at school are the days with "too many arts". We're working with him to tell the teacher when he doesn't want to do art, but he's somewhat passive in that respect.

He loves his big brother. In fact, he constantly wants to be like Kyle, "just like Kyle" in his words. As tall, stay up as late, do things like him. His Dad too at times, tucking in his shirts or wearing a polo like Dad. Delaney discovered video games this spring, with Kyle's help and they are regularly taking turns at Spyro.

Here's our "Duke Joe" helping out on the move:

Christmas 2002

We're moving away from trains!!!! Into GI Joe and army and karate and fighting. He watched a "Power Rangers" movie recently and when they started fighting, jumped up to show me his karate. See the Christmas letter for a little more commentary.

2001

Our middle child and a bundle of energy. He loves trucks and trains and mechanical things, not really interested in animals. In fact, when he was in a walker, Kyle, his older brother, would put a stuffed animal on his tray and Delaney would look at it for a couple seconds. Then use two fingers, pick it up, and drop it off the side. He's still that way, preferring to fall asleep with a few Hot Wheels cars, trains, or trucks in his bed. Not really interested in animals at all.

Though, he asked me the last few times we went to the Children's Museum, to go to the aquarium as well. I guess he likes fish as well, or maybe water.

I'm looking forward to him growing up and riding roller coasters and playing sports with me. He's always been willing to go outside and enjoy himself, especially on a bike. Once he figured out how to ride a trike, he was out on the deck riding in circles for hours.

2002

In the spring of 2002 we put him on a tandem bike attached to one of the parent's bikes and he took right to it. Not that he pedals much, but he sure does want to go fast.

Delaney is, I think, our silliest and funniest kid. He talks incessantly. Not always expecting a response, but he loves to talk. He started to learn sign language in 2002 with our nanny (we lost her asa casualty of Dad's getting laid off), and is really a communicator. He is one kid that I'm sure will excel in school. Not that Kyle hasn't done well or Kendall won't, but I think Delaney will do exceptionally well.

Sports was a miss this year with 3yr old soccer for Delaney. More interested in running in circles than kicking the ball. He did enjoy the Rockies game and hit the T-ball there, so I think we may try T-Ball as well next year and see what happens.
